Dominion Energy
Dominion’s outage page lets you report an outage, check its status and see the outage map, which updates in near real time. You can enroll in text or email outage alerts.
How Dominion restores power: restoration times depend on the number and kind of outages. Crews first assess damage and make the area safe; priority goes to clearing downed lines and restoring power to health and safety facilities, the company says. Once you report an outage, the status page gives an estimated restoration time.
Downed lines: stay at least 30 feet away and call 866-366-4357 to report the location immediately. Assume every downed wire is live.
NOVEC
NOVEC serves more than 180,000 homes and businesses in six Northern Virginia counties, including Loudoun, and runs a Loudoun service center on Evergreen Mills Road. To report an outage:
- Text #OUT to 85700, or text STATUS for updates on a reported outage. Your cellphone number must be on your NOVEC account; up to two numbers per account. Allow 30 days for texting to be enabled, or text NOVECOUT to 85700 to sign up yourself if your number is already listed.
- Report online through SmartHub, or see the outage map.
- Call 703-335-0500. NOVEC suggests verifying your phone number in advance so the system recognizes you during an outage.
Natural gas
If your home has Washington Gas service and you smell sulfur or rotten eggs, it may be a leak. The company’s safety page says to leave the building immediately, call 911 and then the Washington Gas emergency leak line, 844-927-4427 (844-WASHGAS), option 1. Crews respond 24 hours a day.
During a long outage
- Food: Dominion advises throwing away any food that has been above 40 degrees for two hours or more, or that has an unusual odor, color or texture.
