Trash pickup

Loudoun County does not pick up household trash. In Ashburn your homeowners association’s contractor or a private hauler you hire does, and each company sets its own holiday schedule. Ask your HOA office or hauler whether Thursday’s pickup moves. Our trash and recycling guide has the details, including Ashburn Village’s Republic Services schedule and the county drop-off centers, which are open daylight hours.

Giving and getting help

Loudoun Hunger Relief is running its 2026 Thanksgiving Dinner Bag Drive. Donors pack a reusable grocery bag of nonperishable side dishes (stuffing mix, at least four cans of vegetables, boxed potatoes, gravy in no glass, cornbread or biscuit mix, cranberry sauce and a dry dessert mix) and deliver it to 750 Miller Drive, Suite 110, Leesburg, by Nov. 11. Groups building more than 10 bags fill out a commitment form first. Families who need food can call the pantry at 703-777-5911 or visit its get help page; it has a pantry in Sterling as well as Leesburg.

For the children

The Cascades Library runs a Thanksgiving scavenger hunt in its children’s area every day Nov. 16-25, hunting for pictures of traditional Thanksgiving foods. It is free with no sign-up.
